Cascade Powder Cats terrain is high in the Cascade Mountains. Weather up here can change so dressing in layers is a very good idea. A thin inner layer of wicking material such as merino wool or polypropylene is the best bet to keep you warm and dry. Insulating layers should be fleece, wool, down, etc and several thinner layers as opposed to one thick one means you can regulate your comfort more easily. A shell is a good idea as we get a lot of precipitation - and vents are always a good idea. If you have pockets or a pack that can hold an extra pair of gloves, a hat or neck gaiter are great items to have along. If you get cold easily it is a good idea to have some chemical heat packs along. Helmets are not required, but encouraged. If you don't wear a helmet, a hat is encouraged as well. We will be riding in the trees so goggles are very strongly encouraged in any weather. Remember, we ride a long way into the mountains and there are no stores handy (which is a good thing - we are riding in the backcountry, after all) so there is no running back to the car. On the other hand, the Cat is heated, we have lunch and snacks along, and the Yurt is cozy and warm so you don't need a ton of extras. |
