The goal of Cascade Powder Cats is to find untracked, deep powder snow for you to ride in. If you only have a board that is designed for hard packed snow or a pipe it would be highly recommended that you consider renting from your favorite shop. It is generally accepted that snowboarding kicked off the new fat ski movement. Snowboards, by design, are more versatile for soft snow unless they are very specifically hard snow boards. Most boards can be ridden as they are or you can move your bindings slightly back to give you more tip float. A powder-specific board will, however, be a ton of fun in deep snow. If you have not used powder equipment before there are lots of new designs to choose from. Powder boards are generally a little longer and wider than equipment designed for hard pack snow. Some very powder-specific boards are shaped in a 'pin tail' where the nose is noticeably wider than the tail or 'rockered' where the board looks like a banana from the side. These boards are not required, but can add a bit of fun to really deep snow. Your local rental shop can steer you in the right direction if you rent a board. |
